Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me?

It’s hard not to feel insecure when people comment about your hair like this:

“OMG TRACY WHAT DID YOU DO TO YOUR HAIR?”
“Er… I cut it lor.”
“It looks like a rotten mushroom. Hahaha!”

Wow.

“Tracy! What happened to your hair?!” (is obviously shocked)
“Oh, I got a haircut, just wanted a change from the previous style.”
“Ohhhh. It looks… quite cute lah.”

Or worse, stare at me in disbelief and then laugh. And laugh.

I thought I had a pretty high level of tolerance when it comes to jokes. Hmm, apparently not.

To those who had the tact to refrain from unneccessary remarks: Thank you. (: At least you don’t make me feel as though I should wear a cap permanently to hide my hair.

The hooha with my hair is kind of a learning lesson for me too.

It has made me realise that I have to watch what comes out of my mouth. I know that I have a habit of making jokes at the expense of others sometimes, and being on the receiving end now proves that words can sting.
