whatever happened to living on the edge?
LESSON #1
I am often filled with regret when I play it safe and then God shows me how I wasted an opportunity for Him to move in a mighty way.
peas.
During my morning run today, the lyrics of this song came into my head:
You are the peace that guards my heart
My help in times of need
I must have heard / sung this song countless times. Today, it struck me how unusual the choice of the word ‘guards’ was. Somehow, Peace and Guarding just don’t go together. Think of peace and you’ll be flooded by scenes of tranquility, serenity and perhaps the stillness of a pond? Or something along those lines.
And then I attempt, valiantly, to put the word into context.
What does my heart require guarding against? Sin that ravages, words that tear down, actions that hurt.
You are the peace that guards my heart
My help in times of need
The gatekeeper of my heart isn’t a softie. He’s gotta be one tough cookie to keep all those things out! And because God is my peace, it is powerful.
The next time I think of peace? It’ll be a picture of a mighty wave.
[Phillippians 4:7] “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
