i have a confession:

I am guilty of spectatorism during corporate worship.

There are times when I’d open my eyes momentarily and scan the crowd in front of me. When I see people I know surrendering themselves in song, my heart smiles.

Wasn’t it just yesterday when you came, with doubt and insecurities? Wasn’t it the other day when you struggled to commit to His cause? I can vividly remember those moments.

Looking at your life now, I can testify that you’ve grown.

I hope I’ve grown, too.

who do you love, really?

love

They say that God is a giver of good gifts. I’ve been thinking about this lately:

Do we love the gifts more than the Giver?

We like presents. We relish being showered with blessings, all things wonderful. We celebrate the fact that Jesus paid the price for our sins. And boy, are we the apple of God’s eye or what? We don’t deserve to be loved like this.

It’s easy to love the gifts. Or worse, equate loving the gifts to loving the giver.

Loving the Giver means that you’d receive correction humbly. You’d do anything (even very difficult things) for Him. It means you’d want to spend lots of time with Him to know Him more. You would serve. You’d love who He loves. And you’d stick with Him till the very end.

Not easy, huh?

All this thinking has helped me reach a deeper understanding of what it means to love God. And to never take God’s grace for granted.

What does loving the Giver mean to you?
